Judge Hany

Judge Frederick C. Hany II

Frederick C. Hany II is the Judge of the Ottawa County Common Pleas Court, Probate and Juvenile Divisions, having been elected to this position in November of 2020.  In February of 1991, at the age of 31, Judge Hany was appointed to the Ottawa County (then known as the Port Clinton) Municipal Court bench by the Governor of Ohio.  He was elected five times to that Court.

While Judge Hany’s first priority is service to the citizens of Ottawa County, he has also helped to improve the legal system of the State of Ohio by serving on boards and committees which have recommended ways to modernize areas of law enforcement and court administration. By appointment of the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Ohio, Judge Hany served as a member of the Ohio Sentencing Commission, the Ohio Rules of Practice and Procedure Commission, and for many years, was the Chairman of the Ohio Traffic Rules Commission. In addition, he has been a frequent instructor for the Ohio Judicial College. Judge Hany has also been involved with several local community and civic organizations, including the Port Clinton Community Band, the first president of the Ottawa County Visitor’s Bureau, past President of the Oak Harbor Lions Club, and a past member of the Board of Trustees of Magruder Hospital.

Judge Hany received his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Michigan (The Michigan Band 1977-1979) and his Juris Doctor from the University of Toledo College of Law.  He and his wife Susan (Loeffler) have two adult children.
